Estructuras comunicantes/ Communicating Structures

Communicating Structures is a work that has been unfolded by the studio Anónima Arquitectura for Casa Vecina’s Cultural Residency in collaboration with the Atrio de San Francisco.

This architectonical and urban research has been built on two communicating planes. On one hand, the project takes advantage of abandoned structures on playgrounds, jungles of hoops, which are either out of use or being replaced in parks and other public spaces. With this purpose, the starting point of the project has been a productive collaboration with some of CDMX public institutions, to which a work model based on loan, rehabilitation and return to the public space of these structures has been proposed.

Other communicating plane developed by Anónima Arquitectura is a network of people that practice physical activities in public or private spaces of the Historical Downtown; they are small communities reunited in specific spaces and times to practice a variety of games and sports: the tuberos of Plaza San Juan, the clubs of runners that use the Sunday cyclotron, the slackers of Tenonchtitline, the hula hoops of the Alameda. This linking labor has revealed, among other information, the existence of a building that works as a fitness cultural market and that many greatly talented gymnasts and circus performers train at the social and sports center of Guelatao at Lagunilla.
The result of the bonds created over two a half months is translated in this installation, which opens up a space to play and make sports, as well as in a program of activation of the space which was proposed by the communities themselves.

A studio of design and research on architecture and spatial practices. Its interest is focused in collective, cooperative, architecture, intertwined in multidisciplinary, democratic, playful and self-managed ways. An architecture of reversible processes, of editable references, of proximity; open, explicit, without linear processes, and yet, with procedures.

Architecture for non-architects. A theoretical-practical and practical-theoretical architecture, with civic participation, of intervention, installation, construction and demolition, of recycling, of research. An architecture without architecture itself; on one hand, a utopian architecture, and on the other one, and above all, of realities.
